PWCA Information for Members and Residents (May 2019, Message #2)

Good afternoon to all. Hope you are enjoying the non-rainy weather. Some items for your consideration:

  1. POOL INFORMATION: The pool opens in less than a week! Several
    items on this to discuss.
    — First, the guest passes were not included in the packet those who submitted applications received. This was inadvertent. The Pool Committee requests you either come down to the pool on Saturday between 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. to pick up your guest pass. Otherwise please contact pool@parkwestcommunity.org to arrange an alternate time for pickup.
    — See our website or the Pool Rules and Regulations for the adjusted hours of operation during the first few weeks while Fairfax County Public Schools are still in session.
    — Pool passes are required for entry.
    — Passes are not allowed to be kept overnight in the box at the
pool. Please remember to take your pass with you when you leave the pool.
    — Guest passes must be used for individuals who do not have a pass for themselves
    — If you plan to host a party at the pool please send your request
in as early as possible as some dates fill up quickly during the season.
  2. POOL OPENING DAY COOKOUT AND SUNDAES ON SATURDAY: SATURDAY MAY 25th, 11:30 A.M.
We will commence our 2019 pool season with a cookout and first Sundaes on Sunday/Saturday. Volunteers are needed – setup is planned for 11:00 A.M., cookout is planned for 11:30 A.M. Sundaes will follow afterwards (dependent on the number of volunteers to handle the various tasks to making these events successful). Please contact pool@parkwestcommunity.org to volunteer.
  3. WATERING OF SOD:
Is still needed. If you see sod drying out please put some water on
    them.
  4. RECYCLING PICKUP DAY OF WEEK CHANGE:
A post card has been mailed to all residents and all non-resident owners officially notifying all of the recycling pickup day change to
WEDNESDAY. I realize many of you reading this are doing the right thing – the post cards provide certainty all residences and all owners have been notified in accordance with our governing directives. Please see attached the revised Trash and Recycling Rules  https://www.parkwestcommunity.org/Summary of Trash and Recycling Rules (Final).pdf – they may also be found on our website under the ‘Living in PWCA’ section.

All for now. I realize this is a little early but may you and yours
have a safe Memorial Day weekend. Please take some time during your upcoming extended weekend to honor and remember those who gave everything in service to our country.

All the best,

Mark

RECYCLING PICKUP IS ON WEDNESDAY STARTING MAY 13TH

This is a repeat from the last two President Messages:

Effective on Monday, May 13th; our recycling pickup will be adjusted from TUESDAY each week to WEDNESDAY each week. Recycling collection will occur this week on WEDNESDAY, MAY 15th for our community. This is being generated by industry-wide shortages of labor for trash/recycling companies. Thank you in advance for being flexible in your activities to accommodate this alteration of schedule.

PWCA Information for Members and Residents (May 2019, Message #1)

Good evening. Hope your week went well and the your weekend will be
even better. Several items for you tonight.

  1. ROAD RAIDERS CLEANUP EVENT TOMORROW, MAY 11th, 7:30 A.M.
The Road Raiders is sponsoring a cleanup event for Roberts Road adjacent to our community tomorrow morning. Here’s the request from Road Raiders:

Neighbors,
Hello, it is time to clean-up Roberts Road, north & south of Gainsborough this Saturday morning. This area has a lot of overflow (GMU students) parking alongside the road and the trash levels are staggering. Now, some may say – they should clean-up after themselves, I say, if we do not get it at the source, all this plastic trash will be in Royal Lake in 1-4 months. So, let’s make this very trashed area a bit cleaner for all our neighbors.

Recommend you park on Gainsborough, near Roberts. Robinson students & Scouts, we can help you get more service hours completed!

Details:

  • Saturday, May 11
  • 7.15-7.30 Coffee & donuts
  • 7.30-8AM Clean-up the road area
  • 8AM Team photo and off to enjoy the rest of your day.

I hope you all can help us out this Saturday. Please pass along this email to friends, neighbors, Scouts & students; we need as many VOLUNTEERS as possible.

Please bring clear plastic trash bags for recyclables and grocery store type small bags for more trash. Recommend gloves, long pants/long sleeved shirts and sturdy shoes for we will be cleaning up along side the grass/bushes area. Also, please wear “bright clothing as feasible” we will be alongside a busy traffic street of Roberts Road.

Any questions, please let me know.

Cheers,
Tom McCook

2. RECYCLING PICKUP DATE CHANGE – NEXT WEEK:
Effective on Monday, May 13th; our recycling pickup will be adjusted from TUESDAY each week to WEDNESDAY each week. Next week’s recycling collection will occur on WEDNESDAY, MAY 15th for our community. This is being generated by industry-wide shortages of labor for trash/recycling companies. Thank you in advance for being flexible in your activities to accommodate this alteration of schedule.

3. POOL SEASON:
May 25th is rapidly approaching! Pool passes are planned to be distributed by our Block Captains in conjunction with the newsletter in the next week or so. If you have not provided your application in for the 2019 season – please do so at your convenience. You WILL NOT receive your passes prior to the pool opening but will get them within a few weeks of your submission of the completed application.

4. POOL OPENING DAY COOKOUT AND THE FIRST 2019 SUNDAES
ON……SATURDAY!
We will commence our 2019 pool season with a cookout and sundaes.
VOLUNTEERS needed to help – setup is planned for 11:00 A.M., cookout is planned for 11:30 A.M. Sundaes will follow afterwards (somewhat dependent on the volunteers we have to handle the demand). Please contact pool@parkwestcommunity.org or social@parkwestcommunity.org if you can give some time to help your community.

5. WATERING OF SOD:
You may have noticed we completed our Spring 2019 Arbor Care work with sodding of the various stumps we ground earlier this year. Several residents have stepped forward to offer their water spigots to allow the sod to survive and thrive in our common areas. My thanks to each of you. For others near sodded areas – if you see watering is insufficient to care for the sod please provide some water to the areas in question. Together we can make our community look even better!

All for now, please enjoy your evening and weekend.

Regards,

Mark
