Good afternoon.  One major change and a couple of updates for you today.

CHANGED INFORMATION ITEMS:

1.  YARD DEBRIS PICKUP (NOW TUESDAY AND FRIDAY).  Due to the challenges being experienced with the current yard debris pickup, Patriot will now pick up yard debris on TUESDAY and FRIDAY.  This will continue to be a specific yard debris truck.  All yard waste requirements and constraints are in effect as normal.  Some reminders:  #1 – our window opens at 6:00AM and we are occasionally the first pickup community. #2 – Our contractor WILL NOT pick up yard waste in plastic bags (Fairfax County requirement), please place yard debris in paper bags or containers labeled ‘YARD WASTE’.

2.  POOL.  The pool opening date remains undetermined.  Volunteers are working through the actions that are needed to take place before we can open and volunteers are still needed.  Please contact pool@parkwestcommunity.org for further information.

3.  BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING, JULY 21, 7:00PM.  The July board meeting is currently planned to be conducted via the RingCentral virtual meeting framework.  See the website under ‘Meetings’, select the year (2020), then the meeting (20200721).  Document #01-1 contains the information to join the meeting.

4.  ACC.  All rules remain in effect.  Out-of-cycle violation processes are ongoing. The Spring 2020 Home Inspection remains postponed until further notice.

5.  COMMUNICATIONS.  The May 2020 newsletter is digital-only due to the COVID-19 impacts – if you need a hard copy please contact  communications@parkwestcommunity.org.

6.  ECC.  All rules remain in effect.

6.1.  BULK WASTE PICKUP.  Advanced notice is required for any bulk item pickup.  Fees will be increased slightly to cover the additional handling costs due to COVID-19.  Bulk items include furniture, mattresses, grills, exercise equipment, construction debris, or any other large item that would normally be collected with a rear-load trash truck.

6.2.  GLASS RECYCLING (PURPLE CONTAINERS).  Glass recycling has resumed and the purple recycling containers are throughout Fairfax County.

6.3.  RECYCLING AND TRASH.  Should you see someone placing trash or recycling out at an unauthorized time, feel free to take their picture (to include the residence they are coming from/returning to) and email the pictures to  environment@parkwestcommunity.org.

6.4.  TOT LOT.  In accordance with the Forward Virginia Blueprint and resulting Fairfax County guidance, the playground has been opened as of 17 June 2020.  There is no special cleaning on any surface – USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Adhere to social distancing requirements.

6.5.  BASKETBALL COURT.  In accordance with the Forward Virginia Blueprint and resulting Fairfax County guidance, the basketball court has been opened as of 17 June 2020.  USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Users must stay ten (10) feet apart.

6.6.  LENDING LIBRARY PATIO.  In accordance with the Forward Virginia Blueprint and resulting Fairfax County guidance, the patio itself has been opened as of 17 June 2020.  There is no special cleaning on any surface – USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Adhere to social distancing requirements.

6.7.  LENDING LIBRARY (CLOSED).  In accordance with Phase 2 of the Forward Virginia Blueprint and resulting Fairfax County guidance, the Library remains CLOSED due to the restrictions on shared equipment.

6.8.  COMMON AREAS.  In accordance with the Forward Virginia Blueprint and resulting Fairfax County guidance, the common areas have been opened as of 17 June 2020.  There is no special cleaning on any surface – USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Adhere to social distancing requirements.

There will be NO recreational use of the pool during Phase 2. There are MAJOR actions that need to take place before we can open and volunteers are needed. Please contact pool@parkwestcommunity.org for information on tasks needed to be accomplished. To be clear – there is currently no pool opening date and if the tasks are not successfully completed we cannot open the pool this season.

3. POOL. The pool opening date remains undetermined. As a result of these unprecedented challenges we are creating a 2020 Pool Operating Plan and need some volunteers to work many of the details. If you are willing to help with the plan generation please contact pool@parkwestcommunity.org and myself for further information. For everyone – please continue to send you pool applications in, we are moving along the process of creating them but will not be handing them out until we have better granularity on when/if we are opening this season. However, if you wait till the last minute to send your application in it will take time to turn them around and you will miss some of whatever remaining time there is in the season. Lastly, Atlantic is still looking for lifeguards for this season.

4. RECYCLING AND TRASH. As the recycling requirements have been adjusted, please find the current recycling rules, an “Always-Never” flyer, the Household Hazardous Waste rules, and the current Summary of Trash and Recycling Rules on the website. 6. POOL. In case you were wondering – the pool will not open on Memorial Day weekend this year. The opening date is undetermined as are the rules to be enacted if we are able to open. Please continue to send your applications in – more information to follow as the state of Virginia and then Fairfax County issues additional guidance and direction for community pools. Furthermore, staffing will be a challenge due to the travel restrictions in effect for the international lifeguards. Please find attached/linked a flyer from Atlantic – if you had thoughts of doing a lifeguard position for the summer this is a great opportunity.

7. TRASH. We continue to have individual residences who place trash out any day of the week. The negative impacts of this are too many to list here – especially during this pandemic. Patriot goes well above and beyond in picking up loose trash – the official County position is for EVERYONE to place trash in containers or it won’t be picked up. We
have been lucky that the edict is not enforced currently for us. Should you see someone placing trash out at an unauthorized time, feel free to take their picture (to include the residence they are coming from/returning to) and email the pictures to environment@parkwestcommunity.org.

17. COMMON AREA CLEANUP REQUEST. I have seen several families out picking up loose trash around our community recently. My thanks for your efforts. For everyone, please consider giving some of your time to get outside and get a little exercise while also helping our community out. If we can just get a person or two to clean up their town home block our community would look so much more clean. Please consider this.

18. “FREE A TREE” REQUEST. Thanks to those who have taken me up on this request. There are still some trees that need some help so I’m including this item again. We still have some trees throughout the property that are getting overtaken by vines. If you could take a pruner and cut the vines at the base of those trees that would “Free the Tree” and help the community. Recommend you wear long sleeves and jeans or take care not to touch the plants as we have a mixture of invasive plants in our community – some of which will cause an allergic reaction.
