PWCA Information for Members and Residents (November 2019, Message #1)

Good morning to you all. Hopefully you are enjoying this splendid (though cool) day. Here are several items for your consideration:

1. LENDING LIBRARY AND PATIO. For those who were at the last Annual Meeting, one of our owners requested consideration for installation of a lending library at her expense to honor her mother, Miriam Bracco. After almost one year, on Friday, November 1st, we installed the patio, one of two benches, and the stand for the library! It’s found on the ground at the intersection of Gainsborough Drive and Carriagepark Road. Please refrain from walking on the patio or sitting on the bench until Sunday afternoon to allow the concrete to set properly. The second bench and library itself will be installed in the near future. May Miriam Bracco’s love for learning continue to provide enjoyment for future generations in our community. Janine’s intent is to have book reading for the children during the summers – and potentially other times during the year. If any of you are interested to help her please contact social@parkwestcommunity.org and we’ll be happy to put you in touch.

2. GLASS RECYCLING. Glass recycling in NO LONGER supported for curbside pickup in Fairfax County. EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 11 2019, recycling containers that contain glass will be considered contaminated and will not be picked up. Please see the following articles for further information – including a map to the purple containers Fairfax County has placed for glass recycling if you wish to utilize that method for recycling.

3. ANNUAL MEETING, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21st, 8:00PM, Lord of Life Lutheran Church. The 2019 meeting will occur in the same location as last year. All documents have been either electronically or physically mailed to Members of the Association. Those documents may also be found on the website. Please consider submitting your name for election this year. Fresh insight and enthusiasm is welcomed on the board.

4. MONTHLY BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21st, 6:30PM: Please note the monthly board meeting will occur before the Annual Meeting. This will be an abbreviated meeting to allow for Annual Meeting preparations.

5. HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING SOCIAL, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1st, 5PM: Please come enjoy the start of our holiday season at the pool parking lot. As with last couple of years, please consider adding an ornament or two to the trees on November 30th or December 1st. The trees will be lit at or shortly after 5:00PM. For those who are able, we request you to bring holiday cookies down to the social to share with all those attending. Hot cider and hot chocolate will be provided.

Regards,

Mark

Hopefully you are considering your plan to bring home the Best Chili award….less than 24 hours to go….just sayin’….. Reminder – we need volunteers! Especially with the furniture put away for the season – it’ll take a few bodies to move equipment our from the pool house (and later, back in for winter storage again). Here’s the link to the signup sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Smtku_W1xwrLKlIjCUC9M9PgepiMwb0dfgxyOcsC0tA/edit?usp=drivesdk

Volunteers for setup and teardown are GREATLY needed. Setup will occur at 2:30PM. Please email social@parkwestcommunity.org for any questions.

2. WEST SPRINGFIELD DISTRICT STATION TRUNK OR TREAT, October 30, 2019, 6:00pm-8:00pm. From our community’s protectors, “It’s Halloween time, ready or not. Meet us at West Springfield District Station parking lot. Cruisers will be parked and their trunks popped and filled up with lots of candy treats. Bring the kids for treats and giveaways and a safe, friendly…” environment (the article I’m transposing ran out of words at that point)… See this link for the web announcement:

PWCA Information for Members and Residents (Sept 2019, Message #1)

1.  CHILI COOKOFF and HALLOWEEN FEST, OCTOBER 26, 2019, 4:00PM.  This
sounds like a broken record but we do not have a lead to organize the
Chili Cookoff for this year.  As with any event, without a person to
work the items needed to set up and manage the event means the event
doesn’t occur.  At a minimum, we do have a volunteer to lead the
childrens’ activities.  The Chili Cookoff is not terribly difficult to
lead the preparations for.  For those keeping a record, we’ve only had
one person step forward to lead any of the events (the July 4th
Barbeque) that we didn’t have leads specified and able to lead the
preparations for this year.

2.  ANNUAL MEETING, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2019, 8:00PM.  The 2019
meeting will occur in the same location as last year.  The Annual
Meeting Notice and Call for Candidates will be distributed in the near
future.  Please consider submitting your name for election this year.
Fresh insight and enthusiasm is welcomed on the board.

3.  MONTHLY BOARD MEETING, OCTOBER 15, 2019, 7:00PM.  Please see the
website for further information.

PWCA Information for Members and Residents (August 2019, Message #1)

Good afternoon to all. Here are several items for your consideration.

1. COMMUNITY POTLUCK (currently planned for Sunday, September 1st, 5PM, Pool): The potluck is approaching fast and we do not have a lead individual to manage the event. If you are interested please let me know as soon as possible. This event is relatively straight forward to manage – it just needs someone to step forward to take it on.

2. POOL SEASON. Our pool season also normally comes to a close on Labor Day weekend. However, this year we are again going to extend our pool season for one additional weekend! On Saturday, September 7th the pool will be open from 11:00AM to 7:00PM. On Sunday, September 8th the pool will be open from 11:00AM to 6:00PM. The final hour on Sunday is planned for a Puppy Plunge but that’s unclear whether it will occur or not

3. SCHOOL’S BACK IN SESSION. George Mason University begins the Fall 2019 semester tomorrow (Monday, August 26th). Additionally, all Fairfax County Public Schools also start tomorrow (Monday, August 26th). As such, there will be many more people on our streets, whether to the University for classes or young children heading to and from the school bus stops in our community.

4. OPEN DIRECTOR POSITION: Don Malkowski has had to resign his Director position. My thanks to him both personally and on behalf of the board for his willingness to work to help our community. With this resignation we now have a vacant Director position on the board. Request your consideration to place your name forward to fill the open
position. We are looking for people who are interested in helping work towards making a better community for all who reside here. If you are interested please complete and submit an Application for Candidacy that may be found on our website and is attached to this message. The Nominating Committee will reach out to you after you complete that step.

All for now, drive safe.

Regards,

Mark
